Setting up the Scan Avenger Inventory Scanner (3600 series)

Setting up the Scan Avenger Inventory Scanner (3600 series)

This is for the inventory scanner we are currently recommending. We do not carry it ourselves but just give the clinics the info so they can purchase it directly.

There are a number of different Scan Avenger models, the one we have tested with is the 3600 series. It's possible that other models would work the same way but we can't guarantee it.

This scanner is fairly basic in operation and has no extra software. It is controlled by scanning bar codes that tell it what to do. There are 3 codes that will be primarily used. I have put these barcodes into a single image attached to the article, put this on the user's computer for easy reference so they can scan the codes right off the screen. In the future hopefully this can be included directly in the Inventory module.

1. Storage Mode: The scanner by default will try and send each barcode as they are scanned. This tells the scanner to store the barcodes internally instead. The scanner will remember this setting, so it should only need to be scanned once during the setup process. It looks like you need to have the scanner unplugged before it will go into Storage Mode. I have also had cases where the scanner didn't like the barcode on the image and worked better scanning the one in the manual.

2. Data Clear: This clears any scanned frame info currently in the scanner. This should be done prior to beginning an inventory scan.

3. Data Upload: This dumps all the scanned frames out as if it were coming from a keyboard. You will want to create a new text document and put the cursor in it before scanning this barcode. It should output the frame info in the correct format to be read by VE.

Connection: This scanner comes with a base station, but the easiest option for uploading is to plug the scanner into the computer directly as it can be tricky to scan the control codes while the scanner is docked. There is also a bluetooth option where the scanner can be paired with a bluetooth dongle that comes with the kit and can be inserted into the base station. This would be the cleaner install option but is a bit more complicated, and I also don't have access to a scanner at the moment to be able to do a proper writeup on it. So look forward to that sometime in the future.

I have attached the manual for the scanner, it can be found on the website but you have to create a free account to get at it.
